Miniature Pink Piano

Glass. Music. Roses. Feminine. Embellished. Quaint. Old. Cute. Adorable. Delicate.

No posts in a while; it's been a hectic couple of days moving back to New York in the middle of impending hurricane weather. But in the midst of the long weekend's craziness, I found this little pink piano in a thrift shop and now it sits on my dresser. Dollhouse-sized creations are the best.

Love

The sweetest, the prettiest: Bob and Eugenie.

I'm leaving for New York tomorrow morning and these two crazies are what I'm going to miss most about home.

Yellow Gloves

Yellow to begin the week! Gloves. Victorian. Elegant. Petite. Stylish. Stitching. Simple.

My sister received these awesome yellow Victorian gloves as a birthday present. They are nearly a century year old and hail from the family of her boyfriend, which makes them sweeter.

Irish Copper Creamers

Copper. Shine. Painted. Pair. 1800s. Tea set. Hostess. Power. Women. Tradition. Heritage. Ancestry. Connection.

This pair of copper creamers has been in my family for over two hundred years and dates back to my ancestors in Ireland. The tradition throughout the last two centuries has been to pass them on to the eldest daughter. My grandmother inherited them from her mother, and because she only had sons, the next girl in line was yours truly; someday I will have to bequeath them to my daughter, granddaughter, or if there is none, my sister's.

The creamers themselves are gorgeous, with the shiny copper and the delicate paint, but it's the tradition behind them that makes them so meaningful--to think, two hundred years worth of women who have had these creamers in their homes, in their possession, and for whatever reason (there is no record of how or when this practice started) passing them on to their daughters and granddaughters. It is a privilege to have these and to share possession of them with the women I descended from.

Hand-crafted Jewelry Box

From a step-ladder to a jewelry box. Wood. Ivory. Jewelry. Key. Valuables. Keepsakes. Sentiments.

I was at my uncle's tonight and he showed us this jewelry box that he made for his wife. The jewelry box is hand-crafted out of the wood from a step-ladder that belonged to his wife's father, whose signature my uncle traced and burned onto the inside of the jewelry box. The knobs are made of real ivory and it has a lock. What in the world is possibly sweeter than this?!

Pink Bird Wallpaper

Wallpaper. Color. Pattern. Pink. Birds. Vintage. Floral. Sweet. Delicate. Fresh. Home.

I am moving back out to New York next week so I decided I should take advantage of all of the beautiful things at my beautiful home before I leave! This is the wallpaper in our bathroom. Painted birds, light pink. Step out of the shower wrapped in a pink towel and you'll feel like Cinderella, primping your hair for the ball and surrounded by your singsong bird friends--how every morning ought to feel.

Pink Lacecap Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas. Pink. Antique. Summer. Sunshine. Bloom.

These hydrangeas are in our front yard right next to our other hydrangeas (see this blog's first entry). They've been white all summer. This week, however, they are turning a miraculous pink.
